When Community Care Drive was featured on KOLD 13, the number of families reaching out for support jumped from just 5 requests to over 40 almost overnight. But what inspired this neighbor-to-neighbor service, and how does it work?
Bridging Gaps in Tucson’s Food Network
Community Care Drive is a Tucson-based platform designed to help families and seniors access nutritious food and essential supplies during times of need. Think of it as “Nextdoor meets Meals-on-Wheels”: volunteers connect with neighbors facing barriers like transportation challenges, special dietary needs, or concerns about traveling to food banks and community aid centers.
The platform was informed by conversations with Community Care Tucson, local food bank directors, and school staff who hear firsthand from parents and students about the challenges families face. Many families have expressed concerns about feeling unsafe traveling to food banks due to ICE, while others struggle with transportation for elderly household members or have dietary restrictions that traditional food banks cannot accommodate. These school-specific insights helped shape a service tailored to the unique needs of Tucson families.
How the Service Works
Volunteers can sign up to deliver food and essentials directly to families in need, creating a safety net where traditional programs may fall short. Families in need can request assistance through the platform, and the system matches them with nearby neighbors ready to help.
Community Care Drive was designed to bridge these gaps, ensuring that families can access food and essentials safely and efficiently. We were recently featured in KOLD 13 highlighting our launch and the growing need in Tucson.

Community Care Drive is more than a delivery service—it’s about building a compassionate, connected community in Tucson, one neighbor at a time.
